Ideas Are Us is a retail and wholesale business located in Atlanta.
We specialize in eco-friendly and Fair Trade gifts and décor. Our
products are handcrafted by women’s groups in South India.
Each piece is an original handicraft, taking painstaking hours,
resources and effort to produce. The women who craft these
products live in Chennai and are part of a welfare trust that
provides them the training and encouragement to learn the skills
to support themselves and their families, enabling a better
livelihood.
By purchasing products from our business, you are not only
helping these women remain employed, but also contributing, in
part, to the little crèche where the younger children are taken
care of while their mothers work.
Our prices are very competitive and our products are truly
unique. The vibrant colors and the wonderful Earth friendly
materials used make each piece special.
Our mission is to introduce and expose to the global community,
the local arts and crafts of South India, the eco-friendly actions
observed even at the grass-roots level, and the sale of quality
handicrafts at reasonable prices. We believe that your gifting and
décor needs can be fulfilled with eco-friendly options without
costing you a fortune!
Owner – Ruksana Hussain
When Ruksana first arrived in the United States, eco-friendly
products were readily available but she observed that there were
none from India. She decided to introduce the fabulous arts and
crafts from her part of the world but with a difference. Ruksana
works mostly with women’s groups and Fair Trade suppliers,
strongly believing in employing women and ensuring they receive
fair wages. Each product is personally chosen - if it’s something
that Ruksana would not buy herself, you will not find her selling it!
The fact that natural resources like banana fiber or palm leaves
could be turned into useful items like a bag or a note card was
interesting and exciting to her, and she has wanted to share
these lovely gifting and décor options with her friends and
community through her business.
